Combining Maxillofacial Surgery with Invisalign

In some cases, we have patients who need to undergo a surgical procedure to properly fix the alignment of the jaw. In many cases, the ‘bite problem’ is due not only to crooked teeth, but also to a difference in the growth of the upper and lower jaws.

In order to properly fix the bite, one must change the position of the jaws with a surgical procedure. In these cased we refer all patients to see an oral surgeon to ascertain if they require any surgical procedures.

Generally, we have a number of consultations with patients that require surgery to ensure they have all the information required to make an informed decision about the surgery; a consultation follows with the oral surgeon, and then we get the patients back for another discussion with Dr Scott to review and discuss the outcome.

Invisalign in conjunction with surgery is accurate and very successful and can be used with both upper and lower jaw surgical procedures, allowing a rapid return to normal function and correct alignment for your teeth and gums.

Some people may think that Invisalign aligners will only work for minor teeth straightening, but the Invisalign System can also be used to treat a range of moderate to severe teeth straightening issues including overcrowded teeth, widely spaced teeth, crossbite, overbite and underbite.

Correctly aligned teeth can also alleviate the issues that can be caused by an improper bite, speech or chewing difficulties, jaw problems, and increased wear on the tooth enamel. Surgical intervention in line with Invisalign effectively addresses all of these orthodontic issues, so you’ll have the confidence of a great smile and increase the likelihood of improved oral health.

Orthodontic treatment using Invisalign is more subtle, is much more comfortable and achieves faster results.

Invisalign aligners make daily oral hygiene easier, thus reducing the risk of possible problems.
